Maryland Bus Accident Lawyers: Charter Bus Crash Injures Dozens of Students

Police say reckless driving caused a charter bus to overturn Sunday night, injuring dozens of college students on their way back to school after the Thanksgiving weekend. The bus, operated by Abbott Trailways of Roanoke, Virginia, had 50 passengers plus the driver on board when it crashed. A total of 33 people were transported to area hospitals, including one with life-threatening injuries. An initial investigation confirmed that the driver of the bus was speeding when he took the ramp off the Powhite Parkway towards the Chippenham Parkway south. As the bus came through the curve of the ramp, the driver lost control, causing the bus to overturn onto its side. Police on the scene issued a reckless driving citation to the bus driver, a 58-year old man from Salem, Virginia. According to his employer, Abbott Trailways, the man has been with the company since 2011 and had no prior violations. Abbott Trailways operates charter and luxury buses for schools, universities and sports teams thro
